DAMASCUS (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 10th February, 2019) A total of 135 private Syrian firms have participated in a trade fair organized in the Syrian capital by the Damascus Chamber of Commerce, presenting their textile goods, food products, household chemicals and furniture.
"As soon as our [Syrian] armed forces liberate new territories from militants, we immediately expand our activities [to those areas]. We want to tell local residents that after the military victory they have to start thinking about reviving production [in the country] as well. People should see that the war has not destroyed the Syrian economy, we have every chance to return to a normal, peaceful life," one of the organizers of the trade fair said.
The first trade fairs have been held in Damascus since in 2015 and are now organized in other cities across the country as well. An estimated $78,000 worth of goods are sold at the fairs, which are regularly attended by at least 30,000 people.
The organizers are now trying to secure the approval of Lebanon and Jordan to hold the trade fairs in these neighboring countries.
