Putin to Discuss Situation in Afghanistan During Visit to Uzbekistan - Aide

During the upcoming visit to Uzbekistan, Russian President Vladimir Putin will discuss with the Uzbek side the situation in Afghanistan and building cooperation within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), presidential aide Yury Ushakov said on Tuesday.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 16th October, 2018) During the upcoming visit to Uzbekistan, Russian President Vladimir Putin will discuss with the Uzbek side the situation in Afghanistan and building cooperation within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), presidential aide Yury Ushakov said on Tuesday.

"As for international issues, Afghanistan is the first topic. And the second topic is increasing cooperation within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization," Ushakov told reporters.

In turn, the Kremlin press service said that Putin and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev would sign a number of intergovernmental, interdepartmental and commercial documents following the talks.

"During the talks, the leaders will discuss the current state and further development of Russian-Uzbek relations of strategic partnership and alliance.

An exchange of views on acute regional and international issues is planned. Following the meeting, a package of intergovernmental, interdepartmental and commercial documents is expected to be signed," the statement reads.

In addition, the two presidents will also take part in the plenary session of the Russia-Uzbekistan forum of interregional cooperation devoted to agriculture as a priority aspect of the development of bilateral relations.

Putin and Mirziyoyev are also set to partake via videoconferencing in the ceremony dedicated to the start of the construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan.

On Monday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Putin would pay a state visit to Uzbekistan later this week. According to the Uzbek side, Putin's visit is scheduled for Thursday and Friday.
