MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 14th November, 2018) The two-day East Asia Summit (EAS) will open in Singapore on Wednesday, with Russian President Vladimir Putin being among the world leaders to attend the event.
The summit comes as Singapore is hosting this week the 33rd ASEAN summit and the bloc's meetings with its dialogue partners.
The EAS, founded in 2005, is currently an annual regional forum of the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations, as well as Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, Russia, South Korea, and the United States.
On the sidelines of the summit, Putin is expected to have on-the go-meetings with his Indonesian counterpart, the prime ministers of Japan, Malaysia, South Korea and Thailand, as well as the Chinese premier.
Among other key participants will be Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the prime ministers of Australia and New Zealand. The United States will be represented by Vice President Mike Pence.
The issues of regional security, the situation on the Korean Peninsula and in the South China Sea, as well as trade are expected to be in the focus of the EAS summit.
