The Russian state arms exporter Rosoboronexport is going to export amphibious self-propelled amphibious tank destroyer Sprut-SDM1, whose characteristics are close to those of a light tank, Rosoboronexport Director General Alexander Mikheev said Thursday.
MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 16th August, 2018) The Russian state arms exporter Rosoboronexport is going to export amphibious self-propelled amphibious tank destroyer Sprut-SDM1, whose characteristics are close to those of a light tank, Rosoboronexport Director General Alexander Mikheev said Thursday.
"That is a unique piece that has no foreign equivalents. Sprut-SDM1 is the only light amphibious vehicle of its class that has the fire power of a main battle tank ... Rosoboronexport expects high interest in these tanks from countries with difficult geographic conditions .
.. Particularly, a number of Southeast Asian states have already showed interest in Sprut-SDM1," Mikheev said.
Sprut-SDM1 is used to support other units with fire, destroy armored vehicles and fortified positions as well as to conduct reconnaissance.
The tank destroyer is equipped with a 125-mm cannon, 7.62-mm remotely controlled machine gun and a 1.62-mm twin machine gun. The vehicle is also armed with a set of guided missiles allowing it to destroy armored vehicles at a distance of up to 5 kilometers (over 3 miles).
