Russia, Turkey Express Grave Concern Over Escalation Of Tensions In Libya - Moscow

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 18th April, 2019) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Thursday discussed the situation in Libya with his Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu, with both sides expressing concern over the escalation of tensions in the Maghreb country, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
"The ministers have exchanged views on the current situation in Libya, expressed concern about the serious deterioration of the situation due to the ongoing clashes between various armed groups in Tripoli, which led to numerous casualties," the ministry said in a statement.
The sides have reaffirmed their support for the promotion of political and diplomatic settlement of the Libyan crisis on the basis of the UN action plan, according to the ministry.
During the talks, Lavrov and Cavusoglu also have brought up the issue of the Syrian crisis settlement.
"The ministers reviewed the preparations for the next high-level meeting on Syria in the Astana format, emphasizing on the need to start the work of the constitutional committee as soon as possible in order to implement the UN Security Council Resolution 2254 and the decisions of the Syrian National Dialogue Congress," the ministry added.
