S Korea, Japan To Hold Joint Naval Rescue Training

SEOUL, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Dec, 2017 ) :South Korea's Navy said Friday it will conduct a joint search and rescue exercise with Japan's naval forces later in the day. The drill, code-named "SAREX," will be held in waters southwest of Yokosuka, a Japanese port city, and will involve three warships and a naval helicopter.
South Korean assets to be mobilized include the 4.400-ton Gang Gam Chan destroyer and the 4,200-ton Hwacheon fast combat support ship. Japan's Maritime Self-Defense Force will field the 5,050-ton Teruzuki destroyer and a SH-60 helicopter.
SAREX is a maritime drill aimed at improving combined response capability for peaceful and humanitarian purposes in case of a naval accident, the Navy said.
