Sarajevo Highly Appreciates Moscow Position on Situation in Bosnia - Foreign Minister

SARAJEVO (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 21st September, 2018) Sarajevo highly appreciates Russia's principled and permanent position on the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Bosnian Foreign Minister Igor Crnadak said at a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Friday.

The meeting is taking place in the building of the Bosnian Foreign Ministry. The ministers started negotiations in a narrow format, and then delegations of the two countries joined the talks. Lavrov is also set to attend a joint meeting with Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic and the president of Republika Srpska, one of two entities of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milorad Dodik, in the de facto capital of the republic Banja Luka.

"Russia takes a principled position on the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We highly appreciate your strong and permanent support for the Dayton Agreement .

.. We have good relations, I am sure that this visit will only strengthen them. I am glad that the program of your visit also includes a visit to Banja Luka," Crnadak said opening the talks.

Lavrov, on his part, thanked his colleague for hospitality adding that he shares this point of view.

After seceding from Yugoslavia in 1992, Bosnia and Herzegovina was in a state of war, with Bosnian Muslims, Serbs and Croatians fighting each other, until the Dayton Agreement was signed in 1995. The agreement formed two autonomous entities the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Serbian-majority Republika Srpska and the self-governing Brcko district.

Moscow has repeatedly said that Russia supports the territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina in line with the Dayton Agreement.
