Security Colloquium In Jordan Kicks Off

The 12th Amman Security Colloquium is being held in Jordan on Wednesday, bringing together representatives from 39 countries to deliberate over an array of issues, including Middle East conflicts, weapons of mass destruction among other key topics
AMMAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th Nov, 2018 ) :The 12th Amman Security Colloquium is being held in Jordan on Wednesday, bringing together representatives from 39 countries to deliberate over an array of issues, including middle East conflicts, weapons of mass destruction among other key topics.
The event, which will be held in the University of Jordan, is organized by the Amman-based Arab Institute for Security Studies in collaboration with world governments and organizations.
Head of the organizing committee of the colloquium Ayman Khalil, said that this year's gathering will be held under "very complicated" regional conditions, including the reinstatement of US sanctions on Iran.
He said Chairman of the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission Khaled Touqan will deliver a speech at the opening session, to shed the light on the Kingdom's significant strides towards applying the national energy strategy, which was devised in 2007 following in-depth studies to formulate a reliable, economic and sustained energy mix for Jordan, so as to make the nuclear energy one of its major components.
Khalil, further, said that the Under Secretary of State Andrea Thompson will deliver a speech on the use of chemical weapons by some states and other actors.
Thompson, Khalil elaborated, will highlight the U.S. position on establishing a zone free of weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East. U.S. Under Secretary for Nuclear Security Lisa E. Gordon will also speak on fostering national security through military application of nuke sciences, enhance the saftey of nuclear weapons arsenal in the U.S. without conducting nuclear-test explosions.
According to Khalil, Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization Saeb Erekat will also shed light on international dynamics and consequences pertaining to Middle East conflicts, as well as attitudes adopted towards the Palestinian administration, which sees fulfilling the Palestinians aspirations is the only avenue towards achieveing a stable regional security order.
Also taking part in the event are Iranian experts closely linked to their country's nuclear deal with the U.S. along with UN, Saudi,Kuwaiti, and Emirati officials and the CEO of the Nuclear Threat Initiative.
The conference is among the top specialized fora in the region, focusing on regional cooperation, disarmament and non-proliferationof nuclear weapons.
