Senior US Arms Control Diplomat Flies To Singapore For Shangri-La Dialogue - State Dept.

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 25th May, 2019) The top-ranking US diplomat to deal with arms control issues will be attending the Shangri-La dialogue in Singapore in a week's time, the Department of State announced in a media note on Friday.

"Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Andrea L. Thompson will travel to Singapore from May 30 to June 4, 2019," the note said. "The Under Secretary will participate in the 2019 Shangri-La Dialogue."

At the conference, Thompson speak and take part in a discussion on defense-industrial development and o cooperation and will also participate in talks on cyber issues, the State Department said.

She will also hold a series of bilateral talks with officials from other countries attending the conference as well as with senior Singapore government officials, the note added.

The Shangri-La Dialogue (SLD) or International Institute for Security Studies (IISS) Asia Security Summit is a "Track One" inter-governmental security forum held annually attended by defense ministers and the military heads of 28 Asia-Pacific states, according to published reports.
