Slovenian President Visiting Jordan; Discussing Bilateral Ties With King Abdullah

AMMAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 05th Dec, 2016 ) - Jordanian King Abdullah and Slovenian President Borut Pahor, during their meeting here on Sunday, underlined the importance of boosting ties in economic, trade and investment fields between the two countries.
The talks which held in the Al Husseinya Palace focused on cooperation in the sectors of alternative and renewable energy, information technology, water, medical tourism, agriculture, and military industries, Petra reported.
They also dealt with some middle East issues, namely the Syrian crisis and the war on terrorism. During bilateral talks, followed by a plenary meeting, the King welcomed President Pahor to the Kingdom and said the meeting is very important and serves as an opportunity to build stronger relations between the two countries.
King Abdullah said there is a great potential for strengthening economic relations and trade exchange between the two countries, pointing to the possibility of taking advantage of investment opportunities in Jordan and of the free trade agreements Jordan has with a number of countries in the world, as well as exchanging visits between the private sector in both countries.
During the talks, the two leaders stressed the importance of activating the memorandum of understanding between the port of Aqaba and the Slovenian port of Koper, in order to make the Kingdom a gateway to the markets of the region, and turn Slovenia into a trade hub with the Middle East.
The two leaders talked about regional and international efforts to fight terrorism, as His Majesty emphasized that an applying a holistic approach is critical to counter-terrorism, which threatens everybody in the Middle East and the world.
The Slovenian President said: "We highly appreciate Your Majesty's pursuit to achieve peace and stability in the region, and what I hope is to bring together the international community to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis," adding: "Despite the challenges that face our two regions, we must work together to strengthen cooperation between us.
" President Pahor said the Jordanian Slovenian businessmen forum, to be held in Amman, constitutes an opportunity to build business relationships and partnerships between the private sectors in both countries.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Hani Mulki also met with Pahor and discussed ways of enhancing bilateral relations in all fields in addition to the latest developments in the Middle East.Mulki spoke about repercussions of Syrian crisis on Jordan, its economy and on all key sectors and services, pointing out that the Kingdom is looking forward to the role that could be played by Slovenia, through its membership in the European Union, to support Jordan to shoulder the burden of hosting refugees.
He also reviewed the political and economic reforms process; Jordan is implementing, voicing his pride of what have been accomplished in the area of political reform, despite regional circumstances.
In return, the Slovenian president stressed the importance of Jordan's role in the region and the world, saying: "Jordan is one of the pillars of stability in the Middle East." He added: "After my visit to Jordan, I'm convinced that this country is the one I want to work with and I will do my best to strengthen political and economic relations between the two countries." President Pahorcommended the Jordanian diplomacy led by King Abdullah II that calls for finding political solutions to the Middle East crises.
