WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th February, 2019) President Donald Trump and Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz will hold a meeting at the White House on Wednesday to discuss bilateral relations, energy and security amid concerns over a US-EU trade war.

The US and Austrian leaders will meet for a private conversation and then hold an expanded bilateral meeting. The visit of Kurz to Washington, DC was announced by White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders on February 8.

The agenda of the meeting will include discussions on boosting US-Austrian partnerships within the trans-Atlantic region especially on matters such as security and energy.

Kurz has said that he would be glad to meet with Trump, adding that the United States is a superpower and most crucial trade ally, and maintaining close relations with the country is a matter of importance for Austria.

The chancellor also pointed out that Austria was supporting the European Union's efforts aimed at preventing a possible trade war between Europe and the United States.

Kurz's trip to the United States will become the first visit of an Austrian chancellor to the White House within the past 18 years.

At 32 years old, Kurz is the youngest head of government in the world who took the Chancellor's office in December 2017. Kurz also serves as Chairman of the conservative Austrian People's Party.

The Chancellor is known for promoting an anti-immigration narrative, and in November 2018, he joined the United States, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, Switzerland, and Italy among others in rejecting the UN Global Migration Pact that was signed by most countries.
