US President Donald Trump in a phone call with Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Monday pledged US support to help bring the perpetrators of Easter Sunday's deadly terrorist attacks to justice, White House spokesperson Hogan Gidley said in a press release
"President Donald J. Trump called Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe this morning to express condolences to the people of Sri Lanka for the Easter day terrorist attacks that killed nearly 300 and wounded hundreds of others... President Trump pledged United States support to Sri Lanka in bringing the perpetrators to justice, and the leaders re-affirmed their commitment to the fight against global terrorism," Gidley said on Monday.
Gidley noted that Wickremesinghe updated Trump on the progress of the ongoing investigation into the terrorist attacks.
On Easter Sunday, Sri Lanka's Capital Colombo was hit by a series of coordinated bombings in churches and hotels that killed at least 290 people and left another 500 injured. On Monday, local media reported that another explosion took place near St. Anthony's church in the capital Colombo.
Sri Lanka has launched a massive security operation in the wake of the bombings and detained at least 24 suspects.
