Taipei(APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Feb, 2018 ) :Two magnitude 4.0 earthquakes struck Hualien County in eastern Taiwan around 8 a.m. Wednesday, both part of a series of aftershocks that the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) has predicted will last through the month of February, CNA reported.

According to data from the CWB's Seismological Center, the two magnitude 4.0 earthquakes struck at 8:16 a.m. and 8:21 a.m., with smaller quakes ranging from 3.0 to 3.9 in magnitude preceding and following each of the bigger ones.

The two 4.0 earthquakes registered intensities of 3 on Taiwan's 7-tier intensity scale in Hualien County.

Intensity is a measure of how much the ground shakes in an earthquake. The first earthquake was also felt in Nantou County, while the second was large enough to be felt in both Nantou County and Taichung City in central Taiwan.

The center said there have now been 343 recorded aftershocks following the magnitude 6.0 earthquake that occurred off the coast of Hualien on Feb. 6 and left 17 people dead and 285 injured. It warned that there was still a good chance of more magnitude 4 aftershocks hitting the area until the end of the month.
