CAIRO (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 17th April, 2019) The Yemeni parliament discussed on Tuesday the government's draft law on recognition of the Ansar Allah Shia Houthi movement as a terror organization, a source in the parliament told Sputnik on Tuesday.
On Saturday, Al-Arabiya broadcaster reported that the Yemeni parliament started a session in the city of Seiyun, its first session in four years. It was attended by internationally recognized Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi as well as 141 out of 301 lawmakers.
"During the today's session in the city of Seiyun in the province of Hadhramaut the parliament discussed the draft law proposed by the Yemeni government on including Ansar Allah into the list of terrorist organizations and submitted it to the legal committee [of the parliament]," the source said.
Yemen has been engulfed in an armed conflict between the government forces led by President Hadi and the Houthi Shia rebels for several years. The Saudi-led coalition has been carrying out airstrikes against the Houthis at Hadi's request since March 2015. The conflict resulted in a massive humanitarian crisis in the war-torn country.
