MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 23rd May, 2019) Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that the overall share of trade between his country and the Republic of the Congo was comparatively still modest, despite the 60 percent growth in bilateral trade, but that there was also significant potential for growth.

On Thursday, Putin held a meeting with his counterpart from the Republic of the Congo, Denis Sassou Nguesso. The two leaders discussed prospects for the development of bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on the main issues on the regional agenda.

"Relations between our countries have always been friendly and have been developing in this manner for 55 years. We have seen a trade growth of over 60 percent, although, unfortunately, the absolute values are still modest ... But there is good potential in a number of sectors, including energy, processing industry and agriculture," Putin said at the meeting with Sassou Nguesso.

Putin also noted that he would be glad to continue a dialogue with his Congolese counterpart.
