MEXICO CITY (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 19th March, 2019) The Mexican authorities revealed on Monday companies that had been invited to participate in the construction of a new oil refinery in the country, whose cost is expected to total $6-8 billion.
The invitations have been sent to such construction companies as the consortium of the US Bechtel and Techint, the consortium of Australia's Worley Parsons and the US Jacobs, France's Technip, and the US KBR, according to Mexican Energy Secretary Rocio Nahle, whose address was released on her Twitter account.
She added that Mexico's share in the project would amount to at least 50 percent.
Mexico plans to build a new oil refinery in the country's eastern state of Tabasco. The plant is expected to have a capacity of 340,000 barrels of oil per day. The construction works are expected to begin at the end of this year.
Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has repeatedly stressed the need to reduce the country's dependence on the United Stats in the energy field, including by boosting gasoline production. Being a large oil producer, Mexico currently imports over 70 percent of consumed gasoline due to the lack of refining capacities.
