New Dates for Visit of Third Russia-Japan Mission to Kurils Under Discussion - Ministry

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 23rd August, 2018) The third Russian-Japanese business mission's visit to the South Kuril Islands has been postponed due to unfavorable weather conditions, and the new dates for the trip are now being discussed, Russian Foreign Ministry's spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.

"Due to the weather conditions, the Russian delegation which was in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk could not leave the island.

The Japanese side of the mission was also delayed in the city of Nemuro," Zakharova said at a weekly briefing.

"Taking into consideration all the circumstances, it has been decided to postpone the trip to a later date. The Japanese side was offered to promptly coordinate the new dates for the visit via diplomatic channels," the spokeswoman added.

The mission was expected to visit the islands under the Russian-Japanese cooperation agreement on joint development of the South Kurils.
