PNSC To Purchase Two Tanker Vessels: Senate Told

Minister of State for Maritime Chaudhry Jaffar Iqbal Friday informed the Senate that Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) is in the process for purchasing two tanker vessels to cater for the requirements of the country
ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Jan, 2018 ) :Minister of State for Maritime Chaudhry Jaffar Iqbal Friday informed the Senate that Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) is in the process for purchasing two tanker vessels to cater for the requirements of the country.
Replying to a question during question hour in the House, the minister said that PNSC's current fleet comprises 9 vessels (4 Aframax tankers and 5 bulk carriers) with a total Dead Weight Tonnage (DWT) with capacity of 681,806 metric tons.
'PNSC's fleet is modernized and seaworthy sailing in the competitive international market. PNSC comprises of modernized fleet with average age of 12 years compared to 15 years worldwide,' he said.
Jaffar Iqbal said that Pakistan does not have any major workshop to repair the ships and the heavy repair work is done from the different countries through competitive bidding. The minister said that at present nine ships are functional and overhauling is done there after two or three years.
