MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 21st December, 2018) The trade war between the United States and China may speed up the start of Russian meat exports to the Chinese market, Russian Agriculture Minister Dmitry Patrushev told Sputnik.
"We will work on beef and pork [exports] as the process is not very simple. Nevertheless, taking into account certain problems that they [China] now have in their relations with the US partners, there is a chance that we will do it faster and bring our products, pork and beef," Patrushev said.
Russian exports of frozen poultry meat and dairy products to China are also expected to begin shortly since Moscow only needed to conform veterinary certificates, the minister noted.
"Separately, I want to say that our confectionery products are of great interest for China. The volume of their exports over the past 10 months has seriously increased compared to 2017 deliveries amount to $85 million already, including through the well-known Alibaba company.
Our chocolate can be found at almost any Chinese chain shop in any region. I also consider this to be our achievement," Patrushev added.
China and the United States have been engaged in a trade war since US President Donald Trump announced in June that $50 billion worth of Chinese goods would be subject to 25 percent tariffs in a bid to fix the US-Chinese trade deficit. Since then, the two countries have exchanged several rounds of trade tariffs.
In early December, Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping called for a truce in their escalating trade war after the two met on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Buenos Aires.
