HYDERABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th Oct, 2018 ) :Senior Registrar Department of Cardiology, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences Jamshoro (LUMHS),Cardiologist Dr. Nadeem Anwar Khan has advised to adopt preventive measures such as healthy diet to help reduce rise of high blood pressure disease (Hypertension) which is one of the leading psychiatric and completely depressive illness that causing serious threats to human life.
In Pakistan about fifteen million people are suffering from high blood pressure and it is generally said about 30 percent people over age thirty and 50 percent over age 50 will be suffering from high blood pressure. Almost 90 percent people will be suffering from hypertension before they die.
Dr.Nadeem Anwar shared his experienced with APP here on Thursday.
He said that hypertension and depression, which commonly named as "high blood pressure" is a medical condition where the blood pressure is chronically elevated. While it is formally called arterial hypertension, the word "hypertension" without a qualifier usually refers to arterial hypertension, he said.
He informed that hypertension is the disease which is the source of heart attack or stroke with highest risk as compared to other diseases. Persistent hypertension is one of the risk factors for strokes, heart attacks, heart failure and arterial aneurysm and also a leading source of chronic renal failure, he added.
About the classification of the hypertension, he said that it is classified as either essential or secondary.
Essential hypertension is the term, which used when no specific medical cause can be found to explain a patient's condition, he said and added that the secondary hypertension means that the high blood pressure is a result of other clinical problems such as kidney disease or certain Tumors, added.
He said that blood pressure controls the variety of organs and body systems, including the heart, vessels, kidneys, brain and adrenal glands as well as the complex interaction between the body systems.
He said that the systolic pressure measures blood pressure as the heart contracts and pushes blood through the arteries, while diastolic pressure is taken when the heart relaxes. He said that normal blood pressure of the patient should be around 120/80 or lower.
He said that blood pressure varies from person to person and can fluctuate from moment to moment. One or two high readings do not necessarily mean that the patient is in grip of hypertension or high blood pressure, he said.
Dr. Nadeem said that although the causes are not always known, high blood pressure often runs in families, which indicates a strong genetic component.
He said that risk factors for high blood pressure included the use of smoking and alcohol, obesity, taking salt frequently, lack of exercise and stress as well as the family history of hypertension and stroke.
He said that adopting preventive measures in controlling the high blood pressure is very important to knock out this silent killer disease. The patients must ensure the controlling of their blood pressure with healthy lifestyle and proper medical treatment, he added.
He said that like other synthetic drugs, anti-hypersensitive medication has a risk of causing side effects depending on the person as well as the type of drug being taken. These could include, dizziness, nausea, stomach problems, fatigue, impotence, insomnia and loss of appetite, he added.
Dr.Nadeem Anwar advised the people about diet and said that a healthy diet provides health benefits in different ways. He explained it can lower cholesterol, help control patients weight and has palenty of vitamins, fiber and other nutrients which help to preventcertain disease.
