Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Supreme Court Friday held in-abeyance hearing of a petition by the High Court challenging recent appointments of judges in the superior judiciary.
The High Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir few days earlier had accepted different petitions filed by Advocate Shamshad Khan, Shahid Bhar Advocate and others challenging the new appointments of three judges in the High Court.
Senior Judge of the Supreme Court Justice Saeed Akram Raja while accepting a constitutional petition for preliminary hearing filed by the incumbent judges issued interim relief order holding the hearing of the petition by a division bench of the High Court in-abeyance.
The government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir in consultation with the Chief Justice of Supreme Court recommends the Names of eligible lawyers or subordinate judges for the appointment as Judge in the High Court to Chairman Kashmir Council, Prime Minister of Pakistan who gives final approval.
Former Prime Minister Pakistan Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had appointed three judges in the High Court of AJK on the recommendations of Prime Minister AJK few months earlier.
