Provincial Secretary Power Dr Pervaiz Ahmed Tuesday said that around 2700 government schools of District Bahawalpur and District Rahimyar Khan would be illuminated soon through solar energy.
He said that solar panels, batteries, investors and other equipment would be supplied soon to these schools.
He said that this solar system would work for 25 years and this initiative would less the burden of electricity from Wapda.
He expressed these views while chairing a meeting with Commissioner Bahawalpur Nayyar Iqbal at commissioner office. Deputy Commissioner Shozab Saeed, District Police Officer Emir Tamiur, Additional Commissioner Coordination Aftab Ahmed Pirzada, Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue Rizwan Qadeer, Project Director PMU Arif Mansoor , Project Manager Sadaf Iqbal and others officers of concerned departments attended the meeting.
Power Ministry Secretary said that each school would be provided six solar panels having capacity of 260 watt.
He said that additional staff would also be appointed for maintenance and security of these solar power panels.
He said the purpose of this initiative is to provide a better educational atmosphere to the children of these schools as they are the future of the nation and it is of vital importance for them to be able to work hard in a professional manner.
It is to be mentioned that the Chief Minister Punjab had launched the "Ujala Programme" in southern Punjab to provide electricity for 20,000 schools.
Most of these schools are located in far flung areas of the province. Reportedly, the first phase of this program includes conversion of the electricity supply of 10,000 schools to solar energy.
