Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has forwarded around 59 cases to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) against fraudulent short messaging service (SMS) from the four cellular companies during the last five years

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Apr, 2019 ):Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has forwarded around 59 cases to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) against fraudulent short messaging service (SMS) from the four cellular companies during the last five years.

In this regard, the BISP arranging regular meetings with law enforcement agencies and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to curb this menace for action against the involved criminals, sources in BISP told APP.

They said that BISP has planned to execute an extensive media campaign involving print and electronic media to create awareness among the general public about fraudulent SMS.

More SMS based campaigns will also be pursued for saving the citizens from any hazard due to fake messages while law enforcement agencies will also be engaged to take necessary action against involved culprits, they added.

They said the organization has executed bulk SMS awareness campaign, created awareness through BISP website and electronic media, printed banners and hanged in all BISP Tehsil offices, made announcements through FM Radio while PTA has sent SMS to all active subscribers against fraudulent messages.

To a question, they said that as many as 20,919 complaints against fraudulent SMS received from four cellular companies during this period.

Giving details, they said that total of 3,588 SMS were sent from Mobilink, 489 from Zong, 3,742 from Ufone and 13,100 from Telenor.

Under the actions against fraudulent messages, they said that BISP sends complaints received from different regions to telecommunication companies for blockage involved SIMs on fortnightly basis.
