Chinese investor keen on JVs with Pakistani counterparts

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Feb, 2017 ) : Chinese investors have shown deep interest in bio-technology, textile, agriculture, renewable energy and infrastructure sectors of Pakistan and wanted to step into joint ventures with their Pakistani counterparts.

A 20-member Chinese delegation from Beijing expressed these views in a meeting with Pakistani business community here at Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) on Wednesday. LCCI Acting President Muhammad Nasir Hameed Khan and Head of the delegation Deng Jihai spoke on the occasion.

Members of the delegation also had B-2-B (business to business) meetings with their Pakistani counterparts. They said joint ventures in different sectors of economy could equally beneficial for businessmen of both the countries.

LCCI Acting President said visit of the delegation and B2B meetings would help Chinese businessmen explore trade and investment opportunities. Persistent increase in the frequency of trade delegations from China to Pakistan showed that Chinese private sector was taking keen interest in developing trade and investment relations with their Pakistani counterparts.

He said, Chinese entrepreneurs from important sectors of the economy like vehicle manufacturing, energy-efficient construction, infrastructure development, biotechnology, packaging printing and fishery development etc could start joint ventures with their Pakistani counterparts.

"There are great investment opportunities in almost all sectors in Pakistan and Government of Pakistan is trying its level best to facilitate the foreign investors to do business here and has ensured that transfer of their funds and profits is easily carried out," he added.

Nasir Hameed said that at present, all the major chambers of Pakistan were busy in building relations with foreign investors. The provincial governments along with Federal government were taking all possible steps to increase foreign investment in the country.

In this situation, he said, Chinese companies could benefit the most by liaising with the local chambers of Pakistan. He said that some companies from Pakistan and China were already collaborating with each other under Chian-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.

"We will certainly like to welcome more companies from China for joint venture projects in Pakistan," he said. Head of the Chinese delegation said Chinese businessmen were keen to strengthen their relations with Pakistani businessmen.

He hoped that they would find more opportunities for trade and investment. Being a major hub of trade and economic activities, he asserted, Lahore could provide more opportunities to Chinese entrepreneurs.

He hoped that visit of delegation would prove to be result-oriented and Chinese companies would find new trade partners in Pakistan. Former LCCI Vice Presidents Mian Abuzar Shad, Saeeda Nazar, Mian Zahid Javed, Mian Abdul Razaq, Mian Muhammad Nawaz, Khamis Saeed Butt, Moazzam Rasheed, Nasira Taskeen, former EC Member Khawaja Khawar Rasheed, Punjab board of Investment (PBIT) Director Sohail Saleem and a large number of businessmen, investors and industrialists were also present.
