ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th May, 2018 ) :In a significant development in Mumbai attack case, the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) of Islamabad Wednesday summoned two last prosecution witnesses, including Additional Director General FIA Wajid Zia and Zahid Akhter for testimony.
The court also sought reply from Ministry of Interior & Narcotics Control, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) regarding the availability of 27 witnesses, who belonged to India.
During the course of proceedings, ATC Judge Shahrukh Arjamand remarked that the case had entered in the final phase as only two Pakistani witnesses were remaining to testify. He, however, said that despite repeated queries of the court since 2016 no reply was provided regarding the 27 Indian witnesses.
The court directed the respondents to submit reply regarding the availability of Indian witnesses till May 23. Meanwhile, the court granted one-day exemption to Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, the main accused in the case.
It may be mentioned here that the court has recorded the statement of a total of 85 witnesses in Mumbai attack case. The FIA had shared a list of 150 witnesses with the court, out of which 63 were excluded as they were declared unnecessary.
The FIA had nominated eight accused in the case, out of them Hammad Amin, Shahid Jameel, Zafar Iqbal, Abdul Wahid, Muhammad Younis, Jameel Ahmed and Suffian Zafer are in jail. However, the court had granted interim bail to Lakhvi.
