Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Media lftikhar Durrani Saturday said the criminal justice system in the country was not effective to deal with the cases of serious offences, including terrorism
Talking to a private news channel, he said the military courts were established with national consensus as it was imperative to root out the menace of terrorism. The parliament had unanimously approved the law for the purpose, he added.
Durrani said the military courts with their speedy verdicts had, somehow, created fear among the unruly elements, who were behind the terrorist acts.
He said the Law Ministry had already started working on the criminal justice system and finalizing its recommendation to remove the flaws of the law. Till the enactment of the new law, the tenure of military courts would have to extended so that the menace of terrorism should not reared its ugly head again, he added.
The government would approach the leaders of all political parties to develop complete consensus in the parliament on the military courts, he added.
