Islamabad High Court seeks reply from Election Commission of Pakistan regarding votes recounting

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Wednesday sought a reply from Election Commission of Pakistan and other respondents till Friday in identical petitions seeking recounting of votes in several constituencies.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st Aug, 2018 ) :The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Wednesday sought a reply from Election Commission of Pakistan and other respondents till Friday in identical petitions seeking recounting of votes in several constituencies.

Justice Aamer Farooq of the IHC heard the petitions of several candidates, including Pakistan People's Party's Faisal Saleh Hayat, Muttahida Qaumi Movement's Sohail Mansor, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's Israr Ahmed and Sardar Sikandar.

The court directed the respondents to answer regarding the matter till August 3 (Friday) and adjourned hearing on the pleas.

The petitioners adopted the stance in their pleas that returning officers (ROs) and district returning officers (DROs) had rejected their requests for recounting of votes in their respective Constituencies and prayed the court to direct the ECP for doing the needful.

The petitioners nominated ROs, DROs and ECP in their pleas. It may be mentioned that Israr Ahmed had contested the election from PP-111 and Sardar Sikandar from PP-109 Faisalabad.
