MPAs Vow To Fight Against Malnutrition In Sindh

A group of Sindh Assembly members belonging to different political parties Tuesday pledged to work together to improve the functioning of local government councils and to fight against malnutrition in the Sindh province.

Addressing a joint press conference after a two-day field visit focused on rural development, local governance and nutrition, during which they visited Sukkur, Larkana and Qambar Shahdadkot. The members included MPA Haji Shafi Muhammad Jamot, MPA Abdul Sattar Rajpar, MPA Naheed Begum, MPA Kulsoom Chandio, MPA Saira Shahlyani, MPA Farham Seemi, MPA Dewan Chand Chawla and MPA Naila Munir.
The visit was arranged by European Union-funded project to strengthen provincial assemblies of Pakistan in collaboration with other EU-funded projects.
Speaking about their meetings with local government representatives, the members of Sindh Assembly emphasized on the need for granting more powers, financial resources and autonomy to the local government councils.
They agreed with the suggestion that development projects at the grassroots level should be implemented through local governments. The members also held a meeting with over 200 rural women in Naseerabad where the women spoke about community development and women's economic empowerment projects.
The members said they will raise their voice in the assembly about the issues they have observed during their visit in forms of questions, legislation and call attention notices.
