MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Apr, 2019 ) :Multan Waste Management Company (MWMC) intended to impose fine to curtail widespread practice of throwing construction debris or waste on roads and streets.
Chief Executive Officer MWMC Abdul Jabbar told APP here on Thursday that a letter has already been written to Mayor municipal corporation Ch Naveed-ul-Haq Arain for seeking permission to impose fine on such violators.
He said MWMC was already lifting over 700 tons waste from the city on daily basis. They didn't have capacity to lift more debris from the city, he added.
"The company does not have resources to lift 2,000 tons waste and debris daily", he said.
He explained that lifting construction debris was not company's responsibility, adding that it was duty of "municipal corporation".
Jabbar said that throwing debris or waste on roads was violation of Punjab local government act 2013 and this was the basis for seeking permission to impose fine.
He said the company has decided to purchase 68 vehicles each for one union council for improving cleanliness arrangements.
It is pertinent to mention here that earlier, then chairman of MWMC and Mayor Municipal corporation Naveed-ul-Haq Arain had authorised the sanitary inspectors of the company to impose fine on people involved in throwing waste and debris on roads. A fine of Rs 1,000 each was imposed on 150 to 200 violators in this regard. However, the powers were taken back by the competent authority.
The company would resume fine imposition after getting approval from MC, he maintained.
