NA body seeks tree plantation schedule from GB

National Assembly Standing Committee on Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Wednesday directed Gilgit-Batistan government to share detailed tree plantation schedule with the committee along with monthly progress on the campaign

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 31st Jan, 2018 ) :National Assembly Standing Committee on Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Wednesday directed Gilgit-Batistan government to share detailed tree plantation schedule with the committee along with monthly progress on the campaign.

The 36th meeting of the Committee chaired by Malik Ibrar Ahmed appreciated the efforts of Gilgit Baltistan Government in afforesting the area. The Secretary Ministry of Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan and Senior Officers of the concerned Ministries of AJ&K and Gilgit Baltistan briefed the Committee about the development projects especially; energy, health, education, tourism and forest sectors and requested to enhance their allocations.

'The committee was told that a 15 meters wide metalled road would soon be constructed to connect Central Asia, (Tajkistan) and Ghizer. The proposed road would help increasing trade, import of gas from Tajkistan.'The committee desired to visit the proposed road site which will connect Gilgit Baltistan with Tajikistan.

Special committee on China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has also strongly recommended proposed link in its report. The Committee expressed satisfaction over the performance of Gilgit Baltistan Government for initiating public service projects.

The Chair asserted that the Committee, on behalf of Government of Pakistan, wants to convey to the people of Gilgit Baltistan that their development was given due priority.

' The committee was told that the ground breaking of the new building of Azad Jammu Kashmir Legislative Assembly would be held on February 5.

'Neelum-Jhelum project has been completed and the generated power would be added in the national grid from February end. The government of GB has decided to convert wooden bridges of GB into concrete bridges in phases.

A sum of Rs 2 billion has been allocated to convert 80 wooden bridges into concrete bridges this year. As many as 1.6 million record local tourists had visited Gilgit-Baltistan last year.'A women university would be established in Gigit to provide quality education to girls at their doorsteps.

After the briefing, the Members put various questions regarding the proposed projects under Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2018-19 and finally endorsed the proposals of the Ministry of KA&GB with the remarks that all projects should be completed according to prescribed specifications & standards within time frame in the best public interest.

The meeting was attended by member MNAs included Khalil George, Nasir Iqbal Bosal, Sardar Mumtaz Khan, Mrs. Shamas-un-Nissa, Dr. Shazia Sobia, Junaid Akbar, Syed Waseem Hussain, Molvi Agha Muhammad, MNAs, Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs & Gilgit Baltistan Ch. Muhammad Barjees Tahir and Senior Officers of the Ministry of KA&GB, AJ&K Government and Gilgit Baltistan Government.
