FAISALABAD (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / NNI - 20th March, 2019) Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar on Wednesday said that the Parliament was an appropriate forum to curtail powers of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).Chaudhry Sarwar said the assembly can be the best platform to remove faults present in the anti-corruption institution. The Punjab governor said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ministers have also faced verdicts against them in NAB and courts.
He added that PTI has never criticised the national institutions in reaction. He was of the view that faults in institutions must be removed through legal procedures.Sarwar clarified that the corruption cases were filed before the government led by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
He said that the government has decided to empower institutions instead of comprising on corruption. He reiterated that the critics of the anti-corruption watchdogs should bring a bill to legalise corruption to the Parliament.
The Punjab governor was reacting against the allegations levelled by the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, saying that his political party made a mistake of not changing the accountability law during its term in power'.Earlier in the day, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, while addressing charged workers who surrounded his vehicle as he left the NAB office in Islamabad after recording his statement in the Park Lane Estate case, regretted that the party's government could not amend the National Accountability Ordinance 1999 promulgated by a military dictator during its tenure."We will right the wrong come our government," he pledged, adding the case instituted against him dated back to the time when he was barely one year old.Mr Bhutto-Zardari alleged that the bureau was formed to steal mandate of the PPP.
