Only a Turkish company TAV responded to CAA’s tender
Islamabad (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 24th Apr, 2018) The inauguration of New Islamabad International Airport (NIIA) is being impeded as the airport is not being outsourced.
According to a news story published in a local newspaper, the inauguration of NIIA is not being delayed due to construction or official reasons. The government has completed the construction of NIIA in Rs 105 billion but none of the airlines have shown their interest in outsourcing the airport.
Therefore, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is speeding up efforts to outsource the airport for huge loss. According to the documents, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi wishes to outsource the airport before its inauguration.
The CAA had issued a tender to outsource NIIA, inviting national and foreign companies but only a Turkish company TAV expressed its wish to get the airport and filled the tender.
Sources said that TAV Company submitted its report to CAA asking for 5% annual profit. According to the documents, the CAA will pay 5.5% to the company to provide services to all the shops and passengers at the airport.
The documents reveal that the CAA got the services of a famous Pakistani audit company before outsourcing the airport to the Turkish company. The CAA provided it with all the documents and asked for a report if the airport can be outsourced on these conditions.
The CAA officials can outsource the airport on 34% annual profit. If the airport is outsourced for less than 34%, the authority would have to face a loss.
