On PM's Direction, Punjab Govt Withdraws Local Bodies

ISLAMABAD,(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st Augst,2016) : On the directions of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, the government of Punjab has withdrawn the (Local Bodies) amendments through an Ordinance with a view to enable it for immediate completion of electoral process of local bodies. The Prime Minister has personally directed the Chief Minister Punjab to supervise and oversee the completion of the process and asked the Chief Minister to ensure that the local representatives elected by the people are fully empowered for performing their assigned functions and also should be given more authority through devolution to address local needs of common citizens through elected representatives, a press statement issued by the PM's Office here on Monday said.
In order for immediate commencement of the process the Advocate General of Punjab appeared before the Honorable Chief Justice Lahore High Court and prayed for declaring the various petitions filed by different political parties as infructuous after withdrawal of amendments. The case has been fixed for August 3 for early hearing and disposal, the statement added.
