PEMRA Chairman Urges Drive Against Illegal Indian DTH

Pakistan Electronic Media Regualtoray Authority (PEMRA) Chairman Muhammad Saleem Baig, while his visit to Regional Office Karachi Tuesday urged to exercise zero tolerance against Indian DTH and Indian content as per order of the Supreme Court.
Regional General Manager Karachi, Ashfaq Jumani gave briefing about the operational activities, licensing and enforcement in Karachi Region.
The PEMRA chairman was briefed on the ongoing crackdown being carried out by PEMRA Field Staff for the last four days in close coordination with other law enforcement agencies including Federal Investigation Agency, Customs Intelligence, Police and Rangers, against the illegal Indian DTH in the country.
During this crackdown a large number of illegal equipment has been seized including 1,853 Satellite Receivers, 7,387 Low-Noise Block down converter (LNB) and 5,840 Dishes.
PEMRA chairman lauded the efforts of PEMRA Field Staff and stressed upon to make this drive more vibrant and effective.
Addressing officers and staff at regional office, he reviewed operational activities and recovery status of the region and further stressed upon to continue an effective enforcement drive against illegal Indian DTH, C-Line and Android Boxes and a complete crackdown against its sales and associated activities so that no room could be left for those indulged in this illegal business, as illegal proliferation of Indian DTH is not only detrimental to our social, cultural and religious values but also causing huge financial loss to the country's exchequer.
Therefore, all out efforts should be made for effective campaign.
During visit, the Chairman also held meeting with the representatives of the cable operators of Karachi. He asked them to strictly comply with the orders of Supreme court of Pakistan and asked them to operate within the legal ambit, as any illegal activity will be responded by strict action by PEMRA. Moreover, Chairman assured to address all the fair demands of Cable tv operators and support Cable industry.
PEMRA Chairman while talking to officials at Regional Office Karachi emphasized on open door policy for regular communication with all stakeholders. He said that Pakistan and PEMRA's interest must be supreme and all possible means be adopted for imparting facilitation and support to all the licensees within the legal framework.
He was accompanied by Director General Operations Muhammad Farooq, General Manager Operations Muhammad Tahir, Secretary to the Authority Fakhar-ud-Din Mughal and other officials of PEMRA.
