Sindh CM Signs Summary Of Extension In Rangers Policing

KARACHI, Jan. 19 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Jan, 2017 ) : Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Thursday signed the summary for extending special policing powers to the Rangers in Karachi.
CM House officials told APP that extension has been granted for another 90 days as per recommendation of the provincial home ministry and shall now be forwarded to the Federal government for approval.
It is under the Anti-Terrorism Act-1997, that Rangers since September 2013 have been granted special powers to raid and take suspects into custody for their alleged involvement in targeted killings, kidnapping for ransom, extortion and terrorism in Karachi.
It may be mentioned that Sindh Rangers in their annual report for 2016 said they have conducted 1,992 operations and apprehended 2,847 suspected criminals in the metropolis. In the report, the Rangers also pointed out that murders and targeted killings in the city declined significantly in 2016, with 87 people falling victim compared to 199 in 2015.
