Thar Coal Project To Start Electricity Production By Dec:Shamsuddin

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Apr, 2018 ) :Chief Executive Officer, Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC) Shamsuddin Shaikh has said 660 Megawatt coal power project was underway in Thar which would start producing electricity by the end of this year.
Talking to a private news channel, he said first unit of 330 megawatt electricity would be linked to the national grid by month of December this year. He said the project was started in year 2016 and was due to complete in October 2019 however it was expected to be completed by May 2019.
Upto 50 percent electricity was being produced world over through coal while Pakistan was producing only 5 to 6 percent, he said adding, Pakistan would be producing cheapest electricity through coal.
He said there was need to enhance coal power production to meet growing energy demands in the country. To a question, he said all international standards were being adopted to ensure environmental protection in the project.
