A daylong tourist gala would be held at Fort Monroe hill station in Dera Ghazi Khan district few day after Eid-ul-Fitr to project the cultural colours and heritage of the tribal area to attract tourists
Fort Monroe is the only hill station in south Punjab that is accessible by road, around 86-kilometre away from DG Khan city near Punjab-Balochistan boundary and 6470 feet above the sea level.
The Tourism Development Corporation Punjab (TDCP) Multan officials had proposed the initiative and held a special meeting with commissioner DG Khan recently.
TDCP officials said that they have sent a feasibility report to TDCP authorities and commissioner DG Khan.
Fort Monroe Development Authority (FMDA), Pakistan Housing Scheme, DG Khan Arts Council, district government, health department, law enforcement agencies and private sector would be extending cooperation for holding the event in the mountanous area.
Officials say most of the people believe Fort Monroe was only a tribal area in Sulaiman Mountain Range and hence the idea of visiting it hardly strike their minds. Tourist gala would make people believe visiting Fort Monroe would be fun and source of amusement and its scenic beauty was eye-catching.
Traditional sports, local culture, dance, music programmes would be held and delicious Balochi food and traditional dresses would also be on display, officials said.
