Treason Case: Journalists Voice Support For Cyril Almeida After LHC Issues Arrest Warrants

Almeida’s name has been put on the Exit Control List (ECL) as well

Islamabad (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 25th September, 2018) The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for journalist Cyril Almeida who is known for the infamous Dawn Leaks and had interviewed Nawaz Sharif where he gave controversial statement regarding Mumbai attacks.

The arrest warrants were issued as Almeida failed to appear before the court in three hearings of the case pertaining to leaking sensitive information.

The court also ordered the authorities to again put Almeida’s name on the Exit Control List (ECL).

"Spoke to the lawyer, there is a warrant, am back on the ECL and will have to appear before the court on Oct 8... how's your Monday been?" Almeida said in his tweet after the court orders.

As the LHC gave the orders, it sparked an outrage from the journalist community who came out to support Almeida as he only had reported for the newspaper.
