Ulema call for avoiding food wastage in Ramazan

Religious Scholars (Ulema) from different schools of thought Wednesday urged faithfuls to develop the habit of avoiding wastage of food items especially at Iftar dinners during the holy month of Ramazan

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd May, 2019 ) :Religious Scholars (Ulema) from different schools of thought Wednesday urged faithfuls to develop the habit of avoiding wastage of food items especially at Iftar dinners during the holy month of Ramazan.

They were of the view that there should be a mechanism to be devised by involving non government organizations for collecting the leftovers of food itms from the five stars hotels and distribute among needy, instead of dumping in dustbins.

Abdul Razaq a religious scholar while talking to APP said Ramazan is known as a time of moderation. During this blessed month, people were offered a variety of dishes at iftar dinners where they fill up their plates but eat a small chunk of food while rest of it goes wasted.

Quoting a Hadith he said the Prophet Muhammad PBUH (Peace Be Upon Him) had forbidden not to leave any food in the plate as you do not know in which portion of your food Allah has put the blessing.

He said wasting food was a sin and those who commit it would be accountable on doomsday.

He said Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 7 Surah Aaraaf verse 31: "O Children of Adam! Attend to your embellishments at every time of prayer, and eat and drink and be not extravagant; surely He does not love the extravagant." Another Scholor Allama Hussain Shahedi said islam absolutely prohibits wastage in all aspects either it is time, energy, wealth, or even food.

Allah has said in the Holy Quran Chapter 17 Surah Bani Israel verses 27: "Verily spendthrifts are brothers of the Shaytaan; and the Shaytaan is to his Lord, ungrateful," he said.

"I request people to stop wasting food and throwing the food in dustbins, instead they should provide the food to starving people," he added.
