ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 06th Oct, 2016 ) : Pakistan's emerging middle-order batsman Babar Azam etched his name in the elite company of cricketers when on Wednesday he hammered his third successive hundred against West Indies in the three-match series.
The 21-year-old batting prodigy played three classical innings of 121, 123 and 117 in the series. His third ton -117 saw him breaking and creating several records. Following is the detail: *He became only the third Pakistani to hit three back-to-back 100s in ODIs after Zaheer Abbas and Saeed Anwar.
*Second batsman to score centuries in each match of a three-match ODI series. The first batsman to have achieved this landmark is South Africa's Quinton De Kock, who scored three centuries against India in 2013-14.
*Babar also broke de Kock's record of most runs in a three-match bilateral series as he scored 360 runs as against the South African's 342 runs.
*Became the eighth batsman, who has scored three or more hundreds in consecutive ODI matches.
Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara is the only batsman to have made four successive centuries. *First player to have scored his career's first three tons in consecutive innings. Prior to him, Inzamam-ul-Haq is the only player, who had scored his first two hundreds in successive innings for Pakistan.
*Before him Nasir Jamshed held a Pakistan record of scoring three ODI centuries in 21 innings. Babar took just 18 innings for his three centuries. *He has amassed 886 runs in 18 innings and needs another 114 in his next two outings to become the quickest batsman to reach 1000 runs in ODIs.
