Chitral Sports Mela Begins

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Jan, 2018 ) :Chitral Sports Mela got under way here at Qayyum Sports Complex, students studying in various schools, colleges and universities in the provincial capital and hailing from different parts of District Chitral were taking part in it.
Renowned senior journalist Nadir Khawjah, father of international table tennis player Fahad Khawjah Chitrali, was the chief guest on this occasion who formally inaugurated the Sports Mela carrying events like football, futsal, and badminton.
A total of 14 teams in football, and 12 teams each in futsal and badminton were taking part in the Sports Mela. Besides Nadir Khawjah, President of Chitral Students Association Syed Abid Pirzada, District Youth Member Abdul Wahab, Chairman Shah Jee and large number of chitrali spectators were also present and witnessed the opening football match.
Speaking on this occasion, Nadir Khawjah lauded the organizing committee for involving chitralies youth in healthy sports activities.
The youth have largely been ignored due to lack of proper sports facilities and that is why they have been engaged in sports on annual basis in the provincial capital.
He also lauded the present govt for approving two playgrounds in Chitral and hopefully after their completion, the youth would utilize them to excel in sports. Nadir Khawjah also appreciated Director General Sports Junaid Khan for giving due importance to sports activities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa specially district Chitral.
He said Shandoor Polo Festival is one of the biggest festivals of Pakistan, the revenue generated from this event should be utilized on the development of Chitral only. Earlier, Upper Chitral team defeated Kickers FC club by 5-3 in a thrilling match.
In the second match Hayatabad Club beat Ayun FC by 2-1. In futsal, Zeenat Club beat Chitral Student XI by 3-2 and Ideal club Daroosh beat Raja Bahadur club by 3-1.
