RABAT,(APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 03rd Nov, 2016 ) - Moroccan police have arrested 23 people after clashes broke out between rival football fans following a game in Tangiers, the interior ministry said Thursday.
Eight policemen were hurt and seven police vehicles and 12 private cars were damaged during Wednesday's violence, a ministry statement said. Those arrested, who included nine minors, were in custody pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation, it said.
The clashes erupted after a semi-final in the national Throne Cup, pitting local side Ittihad Tanger against Moghreb Fes at Stade de Tanger.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw, but the local team was eliminated.
At the final whistle, fights broke out between supporters of the two teams, a local journalist who witnessed the violence told AFP. Supporters of the home side tried to attack those of their rivals in the stands, but the police blocked them.
