The US PGA Tour Barbasol Championship will move from Alabama to Kentucky starting next July, becoming the first tour event in the "Bluegrass State" since 1959

The tournament, played opposite the British Open, began in 2015 and has been staged solely at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Opelika, Alabama, but will shift to Keene Trace in Nicholasville, Kentucky, just outside of state capital Lexington.

Next year's event July 19-22 will be the first US PGA tournament in the state since the Kentucky Derby Open in Louisville from 1957-59, with South African legend Gary Player claiming his first US PGA title in the 1958 edition.

"We have a strong partnership in place that will make the 2018 Barbasol Championship a tremendous success," US PGA Tour chief tournaments and competitions officer Andy Pazder said. American Grayson Murray is the defending champion, claiming his first US PGA title by a stroke over compatriot Chad Collins last July.

American Scott Piercy won the inaugural 2015 event while the 2016 title went to Australia's Aaron Baddeley.
