Serbian police detain referee on match-fixing charge

A referee has been arrested on suspicion of match-fixing in Serbia's Super League, police said Tuesday, reportedly a first such arrest in the Balkan country

Belgrade, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th May, 2018 ) :` A referee has been arrested on suspicion of match-fixing in Serbia's Super League, police said Tuesday, reportedly a first such arrest in the Balkan country.

Referee Srdjan Obradovic was "suspected to have used his official position to favour the home team in the football match at Subotica between FC Spartak and FK Radnicki" on Saturday, a police statement said.

Obradovic awarded Spartak a penalty for no obvious reason even though the home side was already leading. FC Spartak eventually won 3-0 and look set to qualify for Europe next season following their victory. The referee was ordered to be detained for 48 hours before being brought before a judge.
