European Commission Says Expects EU States To Assess 5G Network Security Risks By Mid-July

EU member states should submit national assessments of 5G networks' risks by July 15, the European Commission said Tuesday
"Member States should complete their national risk assessments by 30 June 2019 and update necessary security measures. The national risk assessment should be transmitted to the Commission and European Agency for Cybersecurity by 15 July 2019," the commission said in a press release on a common approach to security of 5G networks.
While much faster and more reliable than current solutions, 5G networks still have some security vulnerabilities.
Chinese telecom giant Huawei, in particular, has faced intense scrutiny in the European Union. The United States has already banned the company's equipment in Federal agencies suspecting that it might be used for espionage. However, Huawei sued the United States over this policy. Meanwhile, the European Commission refrained from recommending a ban on Huawei to the member states.
