Head of Russia's Commercial Company S7 Space Confirms Plans to Resign

Sergey Sopov, the general director of Russian commercial company S7 Space, which is the owner of the Sea Launch spaceport, confirmed to Sputnik on Saturday that he would step down in the coming days

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 16th February, 2019) Sergey Sopov, the general director of Russian commercial company S7 Space, which is the owner of the Sea Launch spaceport, confirmed to Sputnik on Saturday that he would step down in the coming days.

"Yes, it is so," he said, without specifying the reasons for such a decision.

Earlier in the day, a source in the Russian space and rocket industry told Sputnik about the expected change of leadership the company, adding that former director general of the Russian Center for Operation of Space Ground Based Infrastructure (TsENKI), Ranokhon Juraeva, would replace Sopov.

Over the past few months, the company announced a number of ambitious projects. In November, it announced plans to create a reusable modification of the Soyuz-5 expandable rocket, which is currently being developed by Russian rocket and space corporation Energia. In December, it said that it started working on creating an orbital cosmodrome, which will serve as a transit base for interplanetary spacecraft.
