Floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains in northern Indian states killed 11 people, local media reported on Monday.

People died in the states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana, according to The Times of India newspaper.
The authorities also issued a "red alert" for the state of Punjab.
Educational institutions have been closed in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir and almost everywhere in Himachal Pradesh, the newspaper reported.
The monsoon or a rainy season in India usually lasts from June to mid-September.
