Chemnitz Riots Attract Right-Wing Protesters From Across Germany - Reports

Right-wing extremists from across Germany participated in the protests in the city of Chemnitz where migrants are suspected of killing a German man, local media reported on Tuesday, citing Martin Doring, the spokesman of Saxony's Office for the Protection of the Constitution.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 28th August, 2018) Right-wing extremists from across Germany participated in the protests in the city of Chemnitz where migrants are suspected of killing a German man, local media reported on Tuesday, citing Martin Doring, the spokesman of Saxony's Office for the Protection of the Constitution.

Monday's rally had attracted extremists from the city of Cottbus, located in the neighboring northeastern Brandenburg state, and the southeastern state of Bavaria, the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper reported.

The members of the extremist groups Kaotic and NS-Boys had participated in the riots, the outlet added.

The protesters mainly used social media to engage other people in the demonstrations, the reports noted.

On Sunday, a 35-year-old German national was killed in a brawl in Chemnitz.

The suspects in the murder case are a 23-year-old Syrian national and a 22-year-old Iraqi citizen.

The incident triggered unauthorized demonstrations in the city, in which hundreds of people, including far-right extremists, took part. The extremists were heard shouting threats against migrants.

On Monday, about 3,000 people, including 2,000 nationalists, took part in a far-right protest, during which they clashed with leftist demonstrators.

Germany has been one of the EU states which have accepted a large number of migrants and asylum seekers after the eruption of the 2015 migration crisis. The German authorities' "open-door policy," as a result of which hundreds of thousands of people arrived in the country from the middle East and Northern Africa, has prompted criticism from those claiming that the security situation in the country has worsened due to the influx of migrants.
