MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 24th May, 2019) Developing digital economy is among the key work priorities for the Russian parliament's lower house, the State Duma, which is now focused on creating a relevant legal framework, speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said on Friday.
Russian lower house members are holding a two-day meeting of the council on legal provisions for developing digital economy in Crimea, where they will examine the experience of the world's major IT companies.
"Developing digital economy is one of the work priorities for the State Duma. Our legislation in this area is rather recent, we started forming the necessary legal framework not so long ago.
Therefore, it is especially important for us to examine the experience of other countries and efficient legislative mechanisms that are being introduced to develop digital economy," Volodin told reporters.
The lower house speaker noted that, during the council meeting, the parliament members were expected to discuss "decisions that are necessary for increasing the availability of digital services for [Russian] nationals, and protecting their rights and personal data."
The State Duma council on legal provisions for developing digital economy was established in 2017 and comprises lower house members as well as representatives of line ministries and IT sector.
