Moscow and Tokyo are still discussing the dates for the visit of Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono to Russia, Japanese Ambassador Toyohisa Kozuki said on Thursday.

The Nikkei newspaper reported earlier in the day that the Japanese government was working to arrange Kono's visit to Russia in December.

"Dates for Minister Kono's visit to Moscow are still being discussed," Kozuki told reporters in Moscow.

This comes ahead of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's promised trip to Russia early next year. Putin said he had made the arrangement at the talks with Abe last Saturday on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Buenos Aires.
